ESXi scratch location and syslog

Hi, we got some IBM blades runing ESXi 4.1 and 5 through Embedded USB. In the past we had some issues to provide VMware support with valid ESXi logs from the blades. We end up to configure syslog to save the logs onto a SAN datastore. But recently I came across the IBM KB article below. It indicates the best practice is to manually configure scratch location for the ESXi hosts.

IBM How to create persistent scratch location on ESXi host using a VMware vSphere client - United States

Just wondering if I already have Syslog setup in place, do I still better to setup the scratch location? The Scratch Location configuration change requires an outage of the blade. So if SYSLOG can achieve the same result, I probably will skip the Scratch Location setup. Any suggestion?
