You are right, the log file doesn't contain the error message. However, it shows the snapshot chain, so that you can at least revert back to the latest snapshot manually (unless you have a backup).
With VMware Workstation (or at least the VM's tab) closed, edit the .vmx file and replace
scsi0:0.fileName = "fccdes2.nglscada.local-000003.vmdk"
with
scsi0:0.fileName = "fccdes2.nglscada.local-000002.vmdk"
and delete "fccdes2.nglscada.local-000003.vmdk" from the VM's folder (it's corrupted anyway). Also delete any remaining .lck files or folders.
Now you should be able to power on the VM, but with an older state (01/18/2013).
To remove the now missing snapshot from the Snapshot Manager, you may also need to edit the .vmsd file. If you want, attach it to a reply post and I will take a look at it.
