VMware 7 not seeing USB device

  • I have VMware Workstation 7.1.6 build-744570
  • I have created W7 64 bit and XP (SP3) machines.
  • My version of the VM machines is 6.5 - 7.x (verified through Change version)
  • In my host I have USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports.
  • I have a USB 3.0 flash drive with data plugged into a USB 2.0 port.
  • My host DOES see the flash drive and all the data.
  • In both my W7 64 bit and XP VMs, neither see the flash drive under Window Explorer / My Computer
  • If I go to removable devices in the VMs, USB is not an option under W7 64 bit and XP.
  • I have removed the USB Controller and re-installed under the VMs, it but still no luck. I tried to roll-back, but nothing to roll-back to
  • I do have checked show all USB input devices, enable high speed for USB 2.0 devices, and automatically connect USB
  • If I try to map to the flash drive, I can map to it so VM is seeing it through shared folders.
  • I deleted all my Universal Serial Bus Controllers in XP and let XP re-install, but still no luck.

I do see an error in the message log noting VMware USB Arbitration Service was unsuccessful. I checked the status in the Microsoft Management Console but nothing is listed.

Any suggestions on how I can VM 7 to see the USB Drive without mapping?

Thank you.

Shawn
