This is strange. I also have a problem with USB devices _sometimes_ disappearing from the Removable Devices menu (as usual, when I need them badly).
But on my machine UAC is set to default. Restart of the host usually can fix this. Very annoying.
Details: Workstation 9.02,
Host: Win7 Pro SP1 x64, i7 Ivy Bridge,
2 * EHCI controllers "Intel 6 series / C200" and Renesas USB3 (not used with my VMs)
Guests; various RH Linux versions
(Note: I do not seem to have the usb arbitrator issue )
